Your U13BB team competed this weekend in the 30th Annual Barrie
Sharkfest tournament. After going 2 and 1 during the round robin
portion of the event, (Wins over North Halton and Sarnia, and a loss to
South Huron) your capitals had a Saturday night dance with a friendly
neighbor, the Clearview Ice Cats. The girls played strong, beating
Clearview by a score of 5 to 2, and again advancing to the semi finals
Sunday morning against Central York. After a white knuckle drive to the
rink, the girls kept their foot on the gas, controlling the Panthers
from start to finish, winning by a score of 2 to nothing.
In the championship game, and the team's 6th of the weekend, the girls had a chance at redemption, playing the South Huron Sabres, their only blemish of the weekend during the round robin. This hard-fought gold medal game did not disappoint, as the teams battled to a 0 - 0 tie at the end of regulation. With 3 on 3 overtime not being able to decide a winner, the dreaded shootout is where this game would end up. After a great save by the South Huron Goalie on their first attempt, and a post on our second attempt, the cards were just not in our favour, losing in a heartbreaker 1 to nothing.
The team played 6 games in just over 48 hrs, leaving everything they had on the ice. The girls left the game with their heads high, after such a successful weekend. A special thanks to all the Coaches and parents for everyone's efforts this weekend. Go Caps Go!
