The U15A Capitals headed to Guelph this past weekend to compete in
the annual Winter Classic hockey tournament. The girls went 4-0 during
the round robin portion of the event, with wins over Oshawa, Ayr,
Haldimand, and Leeside. With the first overall placement clinched, the
team got a bye to the finals while Haldimand and Leeside would battle
it out in the Semi Finals.
The championship game would be a rematch of our last round robin game, again vs Leeside. The girls fought through Leeside's immediate surge of energy at the start of the game, and started to see some odd man rushes in our favour. The team's Captain Sophie S. decided enough was enough and took the game by storm, scoring three straight highlight goals giving the Caps the lead we were looking for. The team played great smart hockey for the remainder of the game, winning gold 3 to 1. Goaltender Bronte E. made some big saves when called upon, only giving up 2 goals over the whole weekend. The team played fantastic CAPS hockey, as we call it, throughout the tournament.
The Coaching staff would like to thank all the Parents and Family of the girls for all the support they have shown this year so far. The team currently has a record of 22-4-6 on the season, and are sitting in an upper position in their league standings. Lot of exciting things are on the horizon for this group during the remainder of the season. GO CAPS GO.
